The book written by Producer and Creator of Savdhaan India, and Producer of Crime Patrol, Anirban Bhattacharyya is an in-depth and thrilling narrative about the crime, the criminals, and the stunning investigation that led the Kerala Police to solve the case; and it is already a No.1 bestseller on

Superstar Mohanlal arrived to cheers from his fans which echoed through the venue. The MC for the event was renowned RJ Anjali Uthup Kurien. Mohanlal and the author unveiled the cover of the book, and then Lalettan (as he is fondly referred to amongst his fans) launched the book. He then presented the first copy of the book to film director Ranjith who is also the Chairman of Kerala Chalachitra Academy. Mohanlal went on to speak about the sensational case and how his friend, Inspector General of Police P. Vijayan; IPS had led the team to solve the case in 2008.

Mohanlal in his speech mentioned how the author had obsessed with this case since 2010 and it finally coming to fruition in 2020.

“It was indeed a pleasure to release the book India’s Money Heist authored by Mr. Anirban Bhattacharya. The fact that this book is based on a crime that was solved by the team led by my dear friend Mr. P Vijayan IPS, Inspector General of Police only makes it extra special. Wishing the very best to the author and everyone behind this book,” Mohanlal later posted on his social media accounts.

Ranjith mentioned that this book not only looks at the thrill of a true crime book but also at “the family and societal situations that often mold people into becoming criminals”.

Finally, P. Vijayan who was SP Malappuram at that time said that; “He was able to solve the crime only because of his fabulous officers who deserve all the praise.” He also said that “many rare cases get lost as we do not document them. But now thanks to Anirban this epic case is documented forever, and is a good study material for upcoming police officers.”

When asked about why the author chose this story to write about, Anirban said, “The audacity of a man who pulled off this near impossible crime and the thrilling police investigation is what fascinated me to write about this case. And the case has so many twists and turns that it feels like you are watching a movie!”

Unable to meet the team physically due to the pandemic in 2020, Anirban began researching the book via multiple meetings over zoom where he interviewed P. Vijayan and the officers for almost 6 months. Renowned bestselling author and former journalist S. Hussain Zaidi (Dongri to Dubai, Black Friday) has endorsed the book saying, “It’s breathtakingly gripping and mesmerizingly riveting. The story is so magically told that he will not let you go from the first page till the end.”

This is Anirban’s second true-crime outing after his debut bestseller The Deadly Dozen: India’s Most Notorious Serial Killers (Penguin).
